UDADA FILM FESTIVAL EVENT PLAN

The festival will have two main screening venues in the city. Regular screenings will be daily from 24th -29th October from 2pm -8pm.

REGULAR SCREENINGS

Currently, the main screenings will be held at Goethe Institute. There will be Two main screenings consisting of short films followed by a long film (fiction or documentary or animation.

Timings:

Screening 1                2pm – 4:30 pm

Screening 2                5pm-7:30 pm

Charges will be: Students- Ksh. 50 and Adults Ksh. 150

FILMMAKERS FORUM

Film makers from the region who have submitted their films will be invited to attend a forum to discuss film development, financing and distribution. Television producers will be invited to talk to filmmakers about the kind of content they need in future.

SHORT FILMS

We have sent out a call for Films and expect to be receiving short films from Female

Filmmakers around the world.

THEME NIGHTS

Different cultures can be appreciated and understood through their different (or similar) traditions, foods, way of dress and languages. Theme nights, featuring different countries, will add to the learning experience of participants and visitors.

STUDENTS FORUM

Film students from Kenyatta University, Multimedia University, KIMC and others will be invited to the various educational forums by the various international filmmakers who will be showing their films during the festival.

CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOPS

The Udada Film Festival will run a series for both professional and students with the following themes:

  • Film Funding by Judy Kibinge. She will also introduce DOCUBOX, a documentary film fund that Judy initiated through Ford Foundation.
  • Co-productions in film by Tsitsi Dangarembga. Tsistsi Dangarembga is a writer (Winner of the Commonwealth Prize for Literature), a director and producer from Zimbabwe, runs the only other women’s film festival on the continent.
  • Directing Comedy by Almut Getto. Almut Getto is a successful German filmmaker, screenwriter and director. Her genre is comedy. Comedy is a genre which is difficult to realize. She will show her latest film and have a Q& a session with the audience. In addition, she will meet students at a film students’ forum and discuss screenwriting and directing, funding and distribution, with an emphasis on comedy.
  • Film Distribution and Film Censorship by Njoki Muhoho
  • Film Copyright Issues by Marisella Ouma
  • Screenplay writing by Ekwa Msangi-Omari. Ekwa, a Kenyan/ Tanzanian/American filmmaker will show her latest film and hold a workshop on screenplay writing. She lives in Kenya and US.
CELEBRATING KENYAN WOMEN IN FILM

Kenyan women film pioneers including directors, actresses and producers will be invited to a forum to describe their experiences as pioneers.
